Part 1: Spooky Season Safety—Keeping Your Dog Happy and Healthy on Halloween

🎃 Halloween can be a blast for us humans, but it can be a bit overwhelming for our furry friends. Here are some pawsome tips to make sure your dog has a fun, safe Halloween!

  1. Costume Safety:
Not all dogs are into playing dress-up. If your dog isn’t a fan of costumes, don’t force it. But if they’re comfortable, make sure the costume fits well, doesn’t restrict movement, and avoids small, chewable parts. Keep it simple, and don’t forget to praise and reward them for tolerating it!
  2. Humans in Costumes? Scary!:
Some dogs get spooked when people look different (and who can blame them with all the ghosts and ghouls running around). If your dog isn’t used to costumes, give them space and let them observe from a safe distance. Keep calm yourself to show there’s nothing to fear, and reinforce with treats and praise when they stay relaxed.
  3. Keep the Candy Out of Paw’s Reach:
We all know chocolate and candy are no-nos for dogs, but remember to keep ALL candy in safe places. Those wrappers, lollipops, and gum are just as dangerous. So, stash those sweet treats where no paws can reach them, and keep an eye on your trick-or-treat stash!
  4. Prepare for the Night:
If you’re heading out with your dog, use reflective gear and ID tags, and stay away from the busiest streets where crowds and decorations may overwhelm them. Safety first, fun second! 👻

Keep these tips in mind, and your dog will thank you with wagging tails instead of spooky surprises! Stay tuned for part two, where we’ll share tips on keeping things calm at home during trick-or-treat hours! If you have more questions and or concerns you can always feel free to contact us!
